THANK YOU LANGHAM! What a wonderful day! CTV Saskatoon's Home Town Tour came to visit our fair town yesterday. We toured Rob MacDonald, Chantel Huber and Jeff Rogstad around town yesterday. The Museum was our first stop. The celebrities had coffee with the Plus 60 group and marvelled at the newspaper wall paper in the washrooms; Rob and Chantel milked Buttercup Betty; and chatted with Mrs. Wertz, who used to live in the Train Station that is now the Museum. From there, Jeff Rogstad spied the Honey Wagon outside of Bar Double B Honey, so we walked over to take a look! Thank you to Barry Brown for a wonderful tour! Next, we stopped at the site of our new curling rink and gave them a bit of background on the old building, the problem, demolition and subsequent re-building of the Rink. From there, it was a quick hop, skip and jump from the Elementary School. Wow...What a reception! All three personalities were met with loud and very enthusiastic cheers! They revelled in the C-T-V Chant that the kids got going! Laura Prefontaine took over as tour guide and showed them the inside of the school. We started with the Grade 3's and the Reading Path that is up on the fence. Then joined the Grade 5's Soccer game with Rob joining in and Jeff in goal. We then made our way back into the school. The kids were quietly reading during what they call DEAR program (Drop Everything And Read!) Wow! I wish we had this when I went to the Elementary School! Classrooms complete with comfy reading areas with chairs, rugs and soft lighting! The gym was even transformed into a quiet room with lounge chairs Rob and Chantel had a hard time giving up! Thank you LES for a wonderful tour and your enthusiasm! You are all the best ambassadors for Langham! We had a short break before we started to get excited for the Community Barbecue that Conrad Jantzen from the Senior's Home hosted. He expanded his regular barbecue for the residents to the whole community and we all enjoyed hamburgers, hotdogs, rull kucken and several other desserts, drinks and ice cream from vendors from town. Jeff, Rob and Chantel interviews Mayor Beverly Panas, Cody Mierau (who was the young man who nominated our town), Conrad Jantzen and Gladys the birthday girl! Off camera, we had a very special announcement to make. Nemanishen Contracting - a long time business and a family who has been with us for 11 generations, made a very generous donation of $50,000 toward our new Curling Rink and Curling Club! Overwhelming contribution shows great dedication and community spirit from the Nemanishen Family...a HUGE thank you to Rick, Jason and the whole family for this very generous donation! After lunch, the CTV Crew made their way into the Senior's Home to visit our oldest resident. Marie Penner lives in the home and is 101 years old! They all had a great time talking with Marie, but it was Jeff who she took a fancy to! Her profile outside her door says she loves hugs and she proved it by asking Jeff for one and then wouldn't let go! Quite the special lady! Our final stop was to WWBHS. Michael Neufeld showed off the new gym floor that was ready in time for the new school year and the up coming 2A Sr. Girls Volleyball Provincials! The Viking girls get a by, but are working very hard to prove that they deserve to be there! Next we were off to the Da Vinci Project and the house building for Habitat for Humanity. This is an awesome chance for those students interested in going into a labour career after high school. Gives them a leg up when they attend their secondary education. With our day almost done, we wandered back to the STC CTV Home Town Tour bus. We were pleased to see that the Home Ec students had made punch and cookies as a snack! Most of the crew was in the bus already editing for the broadcast that evening at 6 p.m. But Jeff, the social butterfly, stopped by for a drink and cookie. We did take some cookies into the bus for Rob, Chantel and the rest of the crew! All in all it was an amazing day! I always have been very proud to have Langham as my Home Town and was ecstatic when I could achieve my life dream to be Langham's Recreation Director. I love this town and all it's residents! Thank you again Langham for making this day extra special!
